Garry Richardson

Garry Richardson has been a broadcaster for the BBC for over 30 years.

He is best known as the sports presenter on Radio Four's prestigious "Today" programme. He also presents "Sportsweek" on Five Live every Sunday morning, for which he won a Gold Sony - the radio equivalent of the BAFTAs and also won best Sports magazine programme from the National Union of journalists. He is the chair of comedy sports quiz "Look Away Now" which is broadcast in the 6.30pm comedy slot on Radio 4 as well as being a regular contributor to BBC Television.

However, Garry's big love is performing on the after dinner circuit and 2011 will mark his 25th year as one of the country's funniest speakers. Garry's speech is a rich mixture of stories and anecdotes about his life in broadcasting including his incredible interview with President Bill Clinton in Wimbledon's royal box, in front of 18 thousand tennis fans sitting under umbrellas and 10 million viewers on BBC 1.

During the past 22 years Garry has performed to a wide range of clients on the after dinner circuit and has been booked on no less than on 9 occasions by the Institute of Directors. He has also spoken at 4 dinners in the Directors dining room at Coutts bank. Other clients have included the AA, Audi, AT and T, BA, Tesco, KPMG, IMechE, IBM, Society of Chartered Accountants, Institution of Lighting Engineers and Savills Estate Agents to name but a few!

Garry believes that his popularity as a speaker is down to his routine. As he says "All audiences will contain sports fans but even if you are not a sports fan my stories are so general it doesn't matter" This point is underlined by an appearance for the National School Bursars Association where 80% of the audience out of 250 were women. The organisation were so delighted with Garry's performance they booked him for their for their national event.

"Feedback on Garry was wholly positive.  The audience enjoyed his personal anecdotes, sporting recollections and broadcasting mishaps.  He was witty, quick-witted, sophisticated and very engaging with the audience."  Pipeline Industries Guild SE Branch Dinner, September 2011.

Your entertaining speech quickly lifted the mood after David’s dissertation…This put people in the right frame of mind to support the charity through the Auction.”  Garry spoke at the launch of Msaada at Mosimann’s

"He immediately got the crowd laughing and kept us well entertained with his anecdotes and observations...A truly accomplished speaker it was a performance myself and others have rarely seen bettered "  Paul Watkins, Tesco October 2007

" Garry was excellent hitting just the right note to appeal not just to the sportsmen but to the non-sports minded as well"  Jill Graham, The Fleet Street Club

"He gave a fantastic speech and a number of our participants described him as an inspired choice" Petro- Canada July 2007
