Marie-Noelle Barton MBE
Marie-Noëlle is French by birth, but has lived in the UK for over 30 years. Originally a teacher, she was invited to be a director of the WISE campaign which encourages women into Science and Engineering. Through this she has worked closely with business, government and professional bodies to help build and develop diverse workforces.
She has also had extensive media experience, contributing to national and regional press and even gave evidence to the Science and Technology Select Committees of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
A motivational speaker for over 20 years, she has spoken at conferences and events both in the UK and abroad for clients as diverse as Morgan Stanley, The Royal Academy of Engineering and Goldman Sachs. She is particularly adept at appealing across age, gender, and social barriers.
She speaks with authority on subjects such as Self-Esteem and Confidence, Successful Networking, Effective Public Speaking and of course Women in Science and Engineering.
She is co-author of a book entitled Engineering Equals, and has sat on a number of committees, most recently the Stewart Committee, which looked at the safety of mobile phones. She was also a judge for the 2005 and 2006 Great Britons Award.
In 1999, she was awarded an MBE, and in the same year was the winner of the London Woman of the Year Award. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Technology by the University of Staffordshire and in 2006 became an Honorary Fellow of Cardiff University for her continued promotional work while in 2007, was made a Champion of the Make Your Mark Campaign.

Why do I prefer living in the UK?
A personal account of why Marie-Noëlle prefers living and working in the UK opposed to her native Côte d'Azur in France. Like any outsider, she can hold up the mirror to British and French quirks and absurdities in a fond and humorous manner and shows there's much for the Brits to be proud of!
