Andy is founder and Director of the TYF Group, an award winning education, adventure and development provider based in St.David's on the west coast of Wales. TYF employs 30 people and is one of the UK's leading examples of sustainable business.
After completing a BSc (Hons.) in Geography at Sheffield, Andy travelled and worked extensively in environments that ranged from national parks to open case metal mines, before returning to his native Pembrokeshire. The sharp contrasts he experienced travelling contributed to the development of a strong interest and passion about the need for environmental stewardship and appreciation.
He studied and facilitated on programmes at Schumacher College, one of the world's leading institutions for sustainable thinking, with thinkers including Amory Lovins, Janine Benyus, Fritjof Capra, Jonathan Porritt and many others. Andy was also awarded a bursary for Cambridge University's Business and the Environment Programme, and contributes to the programme's sustainable economy dialogues.
Andy's work on 'eco-logic' has included projects on leadership and sustainability-related agendas for Thames Water, Orange, Business in the Community, Countryside Council for Wales and the Chinese government. His projects currently include a country-level change programme on sustainable thinking, world-class sustainable tourism and St Davids Eco City. Andy works regularly with TV, radio and the printed media, on projects that include documentary work, interviews and news stories, and speaks on sustainability, carbon reduction, green tourism and related topics at conferences across the UK.
His current roles include:
Board Member, Cynnal Cymru-Sustain Wales
Board Member, Countryside Council for Wales
Commercial Director, Association of Sustainability Practitioners
Member, Prince of Wales' Business & Environment Programme
Chairman, St.David's Eco City Group
Andy lives with his family on the coast on the Western tip of Wales, UK where he's building a low carbon house, and spends as much of his play time as possible on or near the ocean.
