David
Bodanis - Author and Futurist

David
Bodanis is best known for turning Einstein’s theory into a dramatic tale of
human achievement, in E=mc2: A Biography of the World’s Most Famous Equation.
Whether exploring past or future, historical breakthroughs or future
possibilities, David has a rare gift for turning complex subjects into
compelling stories.
In the business arena, David is widely respected for his approach to
scenario-building, adapting traditional forecasting techniques to fast-changing
industries.
He was the principal analyst in a multi-million dollar study of opportunities
in the energy industry. He has examined carbon trading schemes, worked on
strategy for BMW’s Innovation Unit and lectured for Microsoft Research.
David also led a study called ‘The Future of Risk’, jointly commissioned by
the Health & Safety Executive, the European Patent Office and Shell, for whom he
acts as advisor to the Scenario Group.

| In his presentations David highlights future trends in society, technology
and the economy. Using data collected from over 900 companies, he examines the
mix of strategies that enable people, organisations and ideas to develop. How do
we balance performing today with performance tomorrow? How do we reconcile the
pressure for agility and ruthlessness, with the need to cement lasting ties both
with customers and staff? Throughout, David’s focus is on practical business
solutions. Originally from Chicago, David lived in France for ten years and then
lectured at Oxford. He is now based in London. His most recent book is Electric
Universe.
Specialist themes include:
How innovation works
How globalisation has failed and succeeded in the past
Deep trends in technology and society - up to 20 years ahead
The Corporation of the Future - from recruitment to porous boundaries
Risk management
