Roger Black

Roger Black

For fourteen years Roger Black represented Great Britain at the highest level in the world of athletics, both as an individual 400 metres runner and as a member of the 4 x 400 metres relay team.

He won fifteen major Championship medals including European, Commonwealth, and World Championship gold medals. His greatest achievement was winning the Olympic 400 metres silver medal in 1996 and he is particularly admired for his triumphs over adversity, successfully overcoming several serious injuries and set backs throughout his career. He was the British Men's Team Captain and was awarded the M.B.E. in 1992. Roger Black is now a television presenter, an accomplished motivational speaker and conference host.

Roger is one of those unique people who have achieved both individually and as part of a team. He understands the dynamics of becoming a champion - how to dream a dream, set goals and take the necessary steps to fulfilling ones potential. By combining his close understanding of motivation and self-development with his personal experiences both on and off the track he consistently inspires, motivates and entertains audiences throughout the country.

Roger was born on March 31st 1966 in Portsmouth. He was educated at Portsmouth Grammar School and subsequently went on to read medicine at Southampton University.

With his close understanding of motivation and self-development he can inspire, motivate and create an individuals awareness of self-achievement.

Roger is an extremely popular figure amongst the media where his talents as a presenter were first established in 1991, when he was asked to work for BBC Sport. Since that time he has captained 'Question of Sport' and is currently a front line presenter for the BBC, having presented Olympics, World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Championships coverage.

Roger talks about how to develop the mindset of a champion by applying the 'Five Fundamentals' for success:

  1. A desire to reach your full potential

  2. A high need for achievement with low fear of failure

  3. Goal setting through pro-activity

  4. Set training programme - synergise

  5. The ability to perform under pressure
