Anna Ford Anna Ford became the presenter of BBC ONE's One O'Clock News when it re-launched in May 1999. Her BBC career started in 1976 with Man Alive; in 1977 she joined Tomorrow's World and from 1986 until 1988 she worked on Network, a live studio based current affairs programme. 1989 saw her join the BBC ONE Six O’clock News team.

Her television career first began in 1974 when she worked on the news desk for Granada TV, and worked on "Reports Action" a social action programme, helping children to find adoptive parents. In 1978 she joined ITN as newscaster and medical correspondent, and in 1981 she helped set up breakfast television with TV-AM. She has done numerous freelance programmes for Channel 4, Thames TV, Central TV and Granada. These include a Training Programme for The Open College and several series on understanding and bringing up children.

Anna presented the Today programme on Radio 4 for two years and has made radio documentaries on Women in the 20th century, as well as Complementary Medicine.

In 1985 Anna published Men - A Documentary, a book of interviews with Englishmen about their lives. She studied at Manchester University where she attained a BA honours degree in Economics, and was the first woman to be President of the Students Union. (1966 to 1967).

   
She has a postgraduate diploma in Adult Education and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law from Manchester University in 1998; an Honorary fellowship from the Open University and an Honorary Doctorate from Queen's University Belfast.

Before joining the BBC she was the staff tutor in Social Studies at the Open University in Northern Ireland, organizing study centres around the province and employing Part-Time staff. She also taught a class of interned Provisional members of the IRA, in Long Kesh for two years and was a member of the Open University Course development team for Social Science.

Anna Ford was born in Tewkesbury in 1943. She grew up in Cumberland and has four brothers. Anna was for ten years a Trustee of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, London; is currently Chancellor of Manchester University -an elected post for seven years; is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, an Honorary Bencher of Middle Temple, and Chairman of Index on Censorship.

In the mid 90's Anna chaired a training course in Hungary run by BBC World Service and British Embassy in Budapest for Journalists in an emergent democracy. This took place over months with Hungarian journalists eventually producing their own Producer Guidelines called the Visegrad Papers.

Anna has done a great deal of public speaking on numerous subjects, and has written articles for many different publications on matters of current interest. Recent clients have included GSK, The Royal Mail, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, The Financial Times and The Evening Standard.

She maintains an interest in art, having studied "Fine Art (1400 to 20th century)" at Christies South Kensington and “The London Art Course". She also takes regular drawing classes with Mary Fedden RA .

She was married to Mark Boxer (cartoonist and caricaturist) who died in 1988, and has two daughters. Katie and Claire.
