Andrew
Marr was made BBC political editor in May 2000, and is due to step down in
autumn 2005. Prior to this he was a columnist for the Express and the Observer newspapers
from 1998. Andrew joined the Scotsman newspaper as a trainee and junior business
reporter in 1981, becoming parliamentary correspondent in 1984 and political
correspondent in 1986. He worked for two years at the Independent then returned to the Scotsman as
political editor in 1986. He moved to become political editor at the Economist from 1988 to 1992.
He returned to the Independent as chief political commentator in 1992 and was
promoted to editor in 1996. He has won several awards including the 1995 Columnist of the Year in the
What The Papers Say awards, and the Journalist Award in the Channel 4 Political
Awards of 2001. He has also broadcast programmes on contemporary thinkers for BBC Two and BBC
Radio 4 and political documentaries for the BBC's Panorama programme.

| In the corporate market, he is noted as a highly amusing after dinner
speaker, and experienced host. Recent engagements have included a speech for the
British Beer and Pub Association and presenting the Press Awards.
Andrew attended Dundee High School, Craigflower School in Fife, and Loretto
School, Musselburgh.
He then gained a BA in English from Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
