At 16.59, 2 January
2003, Andrew Cooney joined the ranks of world explorers when he successfully
completed his World Record attempt to be the Youngest Person to Walk to the
South Pole. The 730 mile
journey to the Pole took 53 days, Andrew dragged a sledge weighing 180lbs for up
to 9 hours a day, enduring -30°C temperatures and severe weather. Despite a
serious injury to his shoulder early in the expedition, and suffering from
altitude sickness, Andrew's resolve to complete the journey never wavered.
Both before,
and since he lived his South Pole dream, Andrew has become involved in the lives
of many people, he offers a source of inspiration, as well as sharing an
enthralling story. Anyone who meets him will see that the story is far from over
- more so that it has just begun. The introduction may be complete, but all the
indications are that the future promises to be just as remarkable.
